The need for citizen participation is increasing
The Coalition for a Global Citizens’ Assembly was initiated by Iswe Foundation (pronounced Is-we) in response to a challenge paper, which argued that the UN Summit of the Future in September 2024 should be used to establish “innovative, structural, and sustainable mechanisms that provide a legitimate voice for citizens in global governance”, such as a permanent Global Citizens’ Assembly.
Help us build a global community
The Coalition for a Global Citizens’ Assembly now brings together diverse governments and organisations who are supporting the establishment of a permanent global citizens’ assembly.
Why do we need a permanent Global Citizens’ Assembly?
Our global governance systems are no longer fit to address the compounding crises the planet is facing.
Citizens’ assemblies are accelerating action on some of the toughest issues across the world, by offering an antidote to polarisation, activating citizens, and generating solidarity.
A permanent Global Citizens’ Assembly could help to drive top-down and bottom-up action on the challenges facing humanity and our home.
